Rate my face: honest scores from real people, 1 to 10
"Rate my face" is a fair thing to ask, as long as the right people answer. On RATE real people score a photo of your face from 1 to 10, anonymously, and you see the average once enough of them have rated.
Get your face rated out of 10 by real people
Post a selfie on a forum and ask strangers to rate your looks, and you get a handful of comments: some kind, some cruel, all from whoever happened to reply. A face rating is only useful when many people score the same photo independently and nobody is performing for an audience.
RATE is built for exactly that. People rate your photo in their feed with one number from 1 to 10, with no comments and no names attached to the scores. Once enough people have rated, you see your average, how many people rated, and which age groups, genders, countries and cultural backgrounds score you highest.
Rate my face or rate my looks? Pick the question first
A close-up answers one question: how do people see my face? A half-length or full-length photo answers a bigger one that also includes your style, posture and build. Both are fair questions, but mixing them in one test makes the score hard to read.
Each rater gives a post one score, so keep a face test to close-ups. If you want both answers, post a close-up and a full-length photo as two separate posts, then compare the two scores and their breakdowns.
Which photo to use when you want your face rated
If the question is about your face, the photo should be about your face. A full-body shot at a party makes people rate the outfit, the room and the drink in your hand. Aim for this instead:
- Head and shoulders, with your face filling a good part of the frame and your eyes in sharp focus.
- A slight turn of the head instead of a flat passport pose. It shows the shape of your face and looks more natural.
- Soft daylight: a window to one side, or open shade outdoors. Midday sun makes you squint and drops hard shadows under your brows.
- Nothing covering your face: no sunglasses, no cap pulled low, hair off your eyes.
- No beauty filters or reshaping. A small brightness fix is fine, but smoothed skin and a slimmer nose only tell you how people rate an edited stranger.
- A plain background, so nothing competes with your face for attention.
What people respond to in a face photo
Bone structure gets most of the attention online, yet a lot of what people react to in a face photo is much easier to change than your skull. Three things matter more than most people expect.
Expression. A face that looks relaxed and engaged reads as warmer than a blank stare. Look into the lens, not at the screen, and let your eyes smile a little even if your mouth barely does. A forced grin shows in the eyes, so think of something genuinely funny just before the shot.
Grooming. Neat brows, a fresh shave or a deliberately shaped beard, skin that looks cared for and hair that looks intentional all show up in a close-up. None of it means changing who you are. It just tells the viewer the photo wasn't taken in a rush.
Light. The same face can look tired or fresh depending on light alone. Soft light from the front or side fills in shadows under the eyes and treats skin gently. Overhead office lights and a phone flash do the opposite: deep eye sockets, a shiny forehead, flat color.
What you can change, and what a face rating can't tell you
Most of what you can change sits in that list: light, expression and grooming, plus haircut and glasses. A face rating works well as a before-and-after check. Note your score and breakdowns, change one of those things, put a new close-up in a new post, and see whether the same group of raters responds differently.
What a rating can't tell you is what you're worth, or how you come across in a conversation. It's a set of opinions about one picture. Some people will rate it higher than others, and that spread is normal for everyone.
Is it anonymous? Privacy when strangers rate your looks
The ratings are anonymous: nobody sees who gave which score. A high rating is revealed in only two cases. When you and someone rate each other 8 or higher, it's a mutual match and a private chat opens. And RATE Gold members can see who rated them 8+.
Your photo itself isn't secret, because people have to see it to rate it. If you'd rather keep your profile and results to a small circle, make your account private: only followers you approve can see them. Every photo is checked before it goes live, which keeps the feed to real people's faces with no nudity, screenshots or AI images, and RATE is for adults 18 and over only.
How RATE works
- Post up to 4 photosClear, recent photos of you. Every photo is checked before it goes live.
- Real people rate them 1 to 10Anonymously. No names, no likes, no comments. Just an honest number.
- See your score and who rates you highestYour average, plus breakdowns by age group, gender and country. Rate each other 8+ and it is a match.
Questions
Can I get my face rated out of 10 without AI?
Yes. On RATE every score comes from a real person who saw your photo in their feed. No algorithm rates faces; photos are only checked to make sure they show a real person and follow the rules.
Should I smile in a photo for a face rating?
Try both, as separate posts. Many faces look warmer with a small, genuine smile, while a relaxed neutral face can come across as more confident. Your own results will show which works better for you.
Do glasses change how people rate my face?
They can, in either direction, depending on the frames and your face. If you wear glasses every day, post one close-up with them and one without as two separate posts, in the same light and pose, and compare.
Should I use a selfie or a photo someone else took?
A photo someone takes from a couple of meters away usually shows your face more accurately, because a front camera held close enlarges your nose and narrows your face. If you only have selfies, hold the phone as far away as you comfortably can, at eye level.
Can my face still be rated if my account is private?
Yes. Your posts still appear in the feed, so people can rate them. Private limits who can see your profile and results to followers you approve.
